I recently had a film transfer place try a free sample of FilmGuard and they really liked it. Enough so that they ordered a gallon of it from us. The cleaner they were using evaporated far too fast, and they liked the results FilmGuard gave them. They are going to use foam application pads in some sort od film cleaner that is mounted on the projector. They cannot use a modified Kelmar cleaner as it HAS to coat the film on the first pass through with no streaking, etc for proper transfer. I was curious if any one else has used any other type of cleaning device other than the Kelmar with FilmGuard???

Some transfer houses clean on a motorized rewind (running no faster than 3X projection speed) then rewind back through it. This gets two passes and once the film is "taken up" will have no trace of streaking when projected (or transferred) normally.

Unfortunately the home video transfer buisness is quite competitive and there is not money(profit) to run a film but once through a projector. There are also the quantity factors to take into account. Some places do huge volumes of transfers and don't have the time to run film through twice, even on rewinds. They do offer a splice check option but they told me that not all people want to pay for it. At most facilities that would be the only other time for Filnguard application. My customer was using something similar to Renovex-2 but it was evaporating too fast. The switch to Filmguard took care of that problem and gave them several other benefits as well.
