Darned if I didn't snap off one of those aluminum oil-tubes for my XL (in this case, the one that lets me change the oil guage from front to back). Now I've got it together despite being shorter, but I fear it may now leak, and I need more compression sleeves. They're not 3/16, not 1/4, so what are they 7/32??? Also, could I use copper instead of aluminum? Thank you.------------------

Is there any reason you don't just call you local Strong dealer and just order the parts? You will need to get pipe benders and such if you plan to bend your own (or you will crust the pipe). I could understand if you planning to do many of these but if it is just one, why not order the parts?

This WAS a new part, but you're right. I'm just checking, as this came as part of a "kit" package of many parts, also fairly obsolete, not sure if I can buy just the tube. The specs were stamped as "reproduced May 10, 1969"!!! (Remember that, when photocopying was an "event"?) I'm just a hobbyist for now, I think I can get the little compression sleeves locally, and I'm curious as to whether aluminium MUST be used for oil pipes, I'm assuming not.

copper should be okay
