Ok, I’ll start this thread.

Who’s going to ShoWest?

Ky and I will be there Monday March 5th through Thursday March 8th. We will be staying at the Bourbon Street Inn as we did last year. Once again I invite you all to the ShoWest/Film-Tech drink. We should pick a time early in the evening just after the trade show ends to meet and merry. Usually Tuesday or Wednesday is good. We will just have to discuss it here.

The ShoWest web address is http://www.showest.com/

There is a schedule of events on the website. Some events you can get into with a trade show guest pass but most events you would need a full pass which can cost as much as $700. Many films the public can buy tickets for after the pass holders have had a shot at the; Especially the screenings at the Century Theatre.

I recommend you stay at an inexpensive hotel like the Bourbon Street, which is directly across Flamingo Ave from Bally’s/Paris where the convention is held. You can ask one of your friends who works for someone who is exhibiting on the trade show floor if they can get you a guest pass. You may have to reimburse them the cost of the guest pass. Last year, I believe it was $75. This is a time-honored way to see the trade show without ponying up $700.

We hope to see many more Film-Tech people at ShoWest this year and hopefully our fearless leader, Brad Miller.

I'm the "new guy". I'll be staying here to man the fort while everybody else goes.

Okay, actually I went home for Christmas and my boss covered my theatres for me. In order to pay him back, I'm covering for him when he goes to Vegas.

I hope somebody will take pictures and stuff and post them. At least that way, those of us that didn't go can have a "Virual Sho-West".

Will I be there? Who knows. The date is conflicting with my move (just like last year) and will be interfering with 2 installation jobs. It just all depends on if I can maneuver things a few days to get away.

Of course the best part is only one person that will be attending knows what I look like (and that person knows better than to spoil the fun).

Besides, I made a deal that I would post mine when half of the members sent in theirs. It's been working pretty good so far, but we're not there yet.

The Barbary Coast is across from Ballys not the MGM

It is one of the best bangs for the buck on the strip. It also has a very good restaurant in the lobby.

Generally, it is where I stay every year.

Luci and I and a posse of Telluride Film Festival stalwarts will be there and will partake in the Bourbon Street Film-Tech Annual Down-A-Few At ShoWest Festival. I hear Ross Krantz will be able to join us, even after setting himself afire just before Xmas. See youse guys then.

I'll be there. It was looking pretty grim for a while as I have 2 major installs coming up but they got pushed back just enough. I usualy stay at the Days-inn behind Bally's its about $45 a night but if the Barbary's not much different I might stay there

Hehehe that film-tech drink will be worth the hole trip to Las Vegas! I remember the comments about last year drink! What was supposed to be a quiet drink at a Bar, turned out to be one hell of a wild party!

In another post I have proposed that the Film-Tech Drink be held Wednesday evening at 5:30 PM in the Bourbon Street Bar. The Bourbon Street Inn in across Flamingo Road from Bally's.

The reason I picked Wednesday is that Monday evening there is the Independent Film Showcase.

Tuesday Evening The trade show goes until 6:00 PM and it has been pointed out that many people go directly to Dinner after the trade show. There are also films being shown that evening.

Wednesday evening the trade show ends at 5:00 PM and there is only one film being shown that evening at 7:30 PM. I figured that it would be more convenient to have a Drink at 5:30 and there would still be time to meet people for a dinner at a reasonable hour.

I figure Thursday is out because too many people will have left and those that stay will attend the Banquet.

I picked the Bourbon Street Bar because it is quiet and we can take control of it with little or no resistance. And that's where we held it last year.

If there is any flaw in my reasoning please let me know. If you can think of a better place, let me know.

Sorry to say that I've had to cancel my ShoWest reservations.

Last week, my wife was diagnosed with a large bleeding ulcer, likely caused by medications she has been taking for another problem. She is now taking Prevacid and likely a powerful antibiotic to clean out the "bad" bacteria in her digestive system, so the metabolism of her regular medications is likely to be problematic for a while. We decided that I should not be 2000 miles away for so long, so my daughters and I will be at the Academy Sci-Tech Awards dinner in LA Saturday 3/3, but I will return directly home to Rochester rather than spend five additional days away at ShoWest.

So, please enjoy ShoWest, give my regards, and share a toast for my wife's return to good health.

I may be hard to live with, but we're both glad that I'm not the cause of her ulcer.

Hi John,
I was on the ulcer route many years ago. When I left television all those problems disappeared for good! I wish your wife a speedy recovery. Fortunately I have yet to find the ulcer route in motion pictures yet, but I know several other prople out there that have.

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes for my wife's health.

Just spent the weekend in LA to attend Saturday evening's Academy Sci-Tech Awards ceremony with my daughters, and flew home Monday 3/5. My wife's ulcer already seems to be on the mend with the acid blocker, and no strong antibiotics will be needed. She really missed being with me in Los Angeles for my award, but Kodak is sending us to a black-tie Academy Award party March 25 at the George Eastman House museum in Rochester to celebrate:
