Found this on the end of Hannibal. What the hell? Has TAP met their match?------------------

That phone number doesn't make sense. Don't you need 7 digits after the area code?------------------

1-877-4-LEDJER. My mistake. Does anybody know anything about this?------------------

I just got back from a showing of "Hannibal", and I noticed the Ledjer tag at the end, too. They have a website where you can fill out a report form in case there was a problem. There is no form for filling out compliments, however. I actually think that is a necessary component of such a service. If it's complaint-only, theaters will probably get tired of it real quick. Naturally people can just fill out a compliment on the report form anyway, but unless they actively encourage it, very few people will do so. Here is a quote from their "about" page:
quote:
LEDJER is a comprehensive, independent quality assurance organization dedicated to insuring the quality of film presentation in theatres world wide.
I believe that should be "ensure", not "insure" (any grammar experts out there please correct me if I'm wrong). Their website is also a bit sloppy and full of broken images. I think what they are trying to do is an excellent idea, but if you're going to be in the "quality assurance" business, you should make sure you have your own quality down pat first!

I say it's a conspiracy. It's really a d-cinema company gathering evidence of "how bad film is", so they can sell the idea of the new improved 'lectronic movies------------------

I didn't spend a lot of time at the site, but the Ledjer thing looks like a knockoff of the TAP program. I noticed it doesn't even state which movies they are taking complaints on. TAP makes this clear right up front.Anyone else find it odd that Ledjer supposedly performed quality assurance work on the Star Wars re-issues a couple of years back???

Actually, Greg may be onto something here.
It's easy to complain about, say, a splicy or scratched film print, but no one is going to call up THX/TAP or whatever this LEDJER thing is and complain about compression artifacts and other problems that are likely to occur with DLP.
I also agree that anything like TAP should also accept compliments as well as complaints, and pass all feedback (well, maybe not "Jar Jar Must Die!", but all relevant feedback at least) to the owners and managers of the theatres in question.

I bet it is simply a guy who did some contract work for Lucas/THX (and others), and is now trying to expand his business. Obviously, they're new, and only have a simple web site (hosted movieposter.com or something!)Although I don't know much about them, I think it might be a good thing. The more resources studios have, the better. THX has a lot of clout, but they may be quite expensive. A studio exec may look at THX's price and just say no. This company may be a cheaper alterative. Maybe not as good as THX, but better than nothing.

The LEDJER site says: "Jerry A. Blackburn and his partners have over 50 years combined experience in the film industry. Their experience includes post-production, film buying and sales and theatre operations."and
"Each of our partners has held one or more of the following positions or received the following honors:
Head of Projection and Sound including Training and Screen Presentation for a major US theatre circuit
Assistant Film Buyer for a major US theatre circuit (LEDJER's head film buyer)
Manager of Reel Replacements for Technicolor Entertainment including assessments of damage
Head of Independent Element Approval and Laboratory QA for 15 major studio releases
Post-Production and Laboratory QA for large format pictures (All filmed in IMAX) Includes 15/70, 10/70, 8/70 and 5/70 releases
Winner 6 Studio Promotion Contests for 6 different films
Showman of the Year (4 years in a row)
Outstanding Achievement in Public Relations (Theatre Operations)
Outstanding Achievement in Promotions and Advertising (Theatre Operations)
Outstanding Achievement is Summer Film Series (4 years in a row)
Outstanding Achievement in Profit Increase (Rise in Division profit of 59.9% in one fiscal year.)"
It looks like the partners in this business are from companies like Technicolor Entertainment Services (TES), DKP 70mm, and some theatre circuits. Anyone know who they are?

One of the 3 prints I'm running has a lab splice right in the middle of this tag! That's almost as bad as the used print of "Antz" I once got that had the "PHONE-THX" tag scratched and chewed up (I didn't have the heart to just cut it off!)

Bumping this up for those curious about Ledjer and Windtalkers (cf. Jeffry L. Johnson's 07-04-2002 11:35PM post in "Windtalkers" in FI&TA)."Does anyone have any more info?"
There was no Ledjer tag on the sneak preview print MIT had in May.

Bumping this one up since Die Another Day has the 'Ledjer' tag on the tail.

Yup. Unlike TAP, I actually got a response to the one I filled out. Of course, it was because I typoed the date as 14 Nov instead of 24 Nov,
but still...I submitted a report at 1:00am or so, and had an email message inquiring at 6:30am the same day.

It seems like the frame lines on the Ledjer have more white on them than the rest of Die Another Day... Quality assurance for the ultra-picky, or is my masking shrinking?
And technically, would "quality insurance" mean that Ledjer will pay for any technical problems?
Posted by John Pytlak (Member # 331) on 11-26-2002, 09:25 PM:
Measure the height of the anamorphic image on the print itself (distance between the framelines). It should be at least 0.735 inches. Anything less than 0.700 inches has a very high risk of showing framelines with the standard 0.690 inch projectable image area specified by SMPTE 195.
