We're happy to report that fellow Film-Techie Tim Reed was the very first guest speaker at the very first United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association Conference, held this past week near Orlando, Florida. Tim did one heckuva job and he made us very proud.

The United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association was founded in March 1999 and has been growing steadily since its founding. The organization is a business league for drive-in theatre operators and membership is open to owners and general managers of currently operating drive-in theatres.

While we held a business meeting and some social events last year, this year's event was the UDITOA's first real conference with guest speakers. Knowing that we wanted to begin the show with a booth-related technical lecture, the association reached out for Tim who is both a respected tech and has extensive experience both servicing and operating drive-in theatres.

Tim's lecture was packed full of information
regarding good film presentation at drive-in theatres. Accordingly, he covered everything from basic maintenance of a 35mm projection booth to digital projection in the future. His segments on getting the most light out of 35mm systems and use of redlight optical sound readers were very enlightening. Tim also handled the Q and A session after his talk like the pro he is.

For those of you who have never had a chance to meet Tim Reed in person, he is a very nice guy and very dedicated to his craft. His presentation at the conference was well received by UDITOA members. Three cheers for Tim!

That's very kind of you, thank you. It was my sincere pleasure.

Folks, let me tell you, at this conference, I had the most fun I've had in a long time. My hosts and all the attendees were very gracious, and I was treated royally. It was a blast!

John, thanks for the offer, but as many Film-Techers may know, I'm still a victim of the Showeast/ShoWest curse... I've not yet been able to attend either. Every time I've been up for an opportunity to go, something happens!

Most recently, the closures in Florida forced my relocation from there, and knocked me out of free trip to Showeast last year; and since only 2 guys from the ASC home office are ever sent to tradeshows, and because I'm not one of them, I'll never get there.

Not too long ago, I simply resigned myself to the idea that I will never see a tradeshow, and, well, it helps me sleep at night.

Which made the UDITOA conference all the more enjoyable. Thanks again, friends!!!

Tim: Wish I could have been there. Sounds like a good get-together.

Did the Kodak publications that Rick Cohen requested get there in time to be distributed to the participants? Rick's drive-in is in our neck of the woods, not too far from the still-operating Grandview Drive-in where I made my first changeovers and had a great three summers learning the craft.

Loved the presentation! I could listen and learn for hours! Good to se ya' again.

As a UDITOA member and future DI owner/manager,I'd like to say thanks to you and Kodak for the great info that was given to us. The Kodak Projection Guide for Reel People should be standard issue for anyone that walks into a booth. The troubleshooting guide is going up on the wall of the next booth I work. (right next to the Film Prayer)

Tim , it was great to have you at the meeting I know that everyone found information that needs to passed along. When you get a chance check out drive-ins.com they posted a picture of the group at the convention . Next time we are in Boston we will have to get together
