Just got the new Kodak Cinema Notes in the mail. It's much improved...very colorful and as always, informative.

The great article on Film-Tech has two problems however....

1. No picture of Brad!

2. It's on the same page with yet another article touting the wonderful TES "User's Guide." Wonder if the layout person is a Film-Tech lurker who knows our opinion of the Guide?

Oh, now wasn't the "artist's rendering" sketch by the artist who has never met me good enough?

Two problems with the drawing. I am 31 and my hair hasn't started to recede. This is because I have discovered the secret to stopping the aging process and I being the human guinea pig for my soon-to-be-patented discovery, I have put a stop to my aging for the last 10 years, thus I look nowhere near my actual age. Second, me in a tie??? Somebody has to die or get married for that to happen. Ties are evil little cloth versions of a noose to hang someone with and I am not a pleasant person to be around when I am wearing one of those damned things. The best thing I have ever done to promote world peace was to stop wearing ties.

Anyone who has actually met me in person can vouch for the first point. Anyone who has been within 100 yards of me when I have been wearing a tie can vouch for the tie thing.

By the way, I was interviewed 6 months ago for that article, so some of the facts and figures in there have changed. For example, in the article it mentions that Film-Tech is being ran off of my own server. Last fall during the time of the interview it WAS (with Scott Norwood's help), but conditions forced me to change servers and that is why the site is so unbelieveably slow right now. Upgrades are coming soon!

Brad --- that "artist's rendering" was not of you, but of one of the many corporate "lurkers" spying on Film-Tech.

Like you, I hate ties, and appreciate that my area of Kodak has been "dress down" casual for many years.

A 6 month lead time? Geeeesh! I can't believe such an itty bitty newsletter needs a 6 month lead time, even if only one guy was doing the whole thing. I thought it was ridiculous when I would write an article for a magazine and it would take them almost 3 months to publish it. I've seen large magazines that have maybe a 2 week lead time. And I guess Time and Newsweek only have a few days!

6 months? Wow. That HAS to be a record.

As I understand it, there are a backlog of articles waiting to be published, so some get delayed. Plus Jamie Powell just took on the full responsibilities as Editor.

John is correct, I took over the publication just before the December issue was due out. We decided not to publish that issue since it was not working out to be what I knew it could be, so that's what took so long. Hopefully everyone will agree that Cinema Notes has changed significantly for the better and I invite any and all comments on the new look or opinions on the industry that you might like to see published in our June edition.

My comments (because people care):

Overall I think the issue looks pretty good. I am judging from the PDF file and not the actual folding newsletter. Maybe a little heavy on the clipart.

And why is it that every single picture I ever see of John Pytlak looks totally different? Seriously, if I gathered all the pics I have seen of him and put them together, you'd swear they were all different people! Maybe Pytlak doesn't really exist. Either that or he is on the run constantly changing his looks to protect his identity. The digital guys must be after him.

We all change with age, hopefully for the better.

Some of my best friends at Kodak are developing digital technology. I value my friendships at TI, Sony, Christie, IMAX, Barco, Lucasfilm, Qualcomm, and other companies developing digital cinema. I just happen to believe that "Film Done Right" is still much more cost effective and offers superior image quality compared to digital cinema.
