I saw "Windjammer" in single strip 35mm anamorphic last night at the 40th anniversary of the Royal cinema in Malmų, Sweden. The director, Louis de Rochemont came in from Oslo and introduced the film that opened the cinema in 1961. A fantastic evening that sold out 4 months ago!!The print last night came from Swedish Film Institute. The Norwegian Film Institute has a flat print with great color. The print last night had great horizontal registration between panels. It was a quite fuzzy image compared to the original CineMiracle version of course, but watchable all the same.
It was curious to see it color, as I have seen it several times in Bradford in the "official Cinerama color": PINK!
Soundtrack was 35mm optical mono. No magnetic striping.
Does anyone in this respected forum recall/know about other 35mm single strip anamorphic (or flat for that matter) screenings of "Windjammer" anywhere else? I'm thinking of screenings that took place in the early sixties.
best wishes for the weekend
Thomas

Apparently, there were some 35mm flat (1.85) prints made of this as well. I have no idea why.
I'd love to get my hands on a decent-quality video copy of this. The one that I have is an nth-generation VHS dub from something that was shot off a screen, with a soundtrack that is partly in German. The print looks very faded, of course. (My understanding here is that the film is PD and that there are no copyright issues.)

ScottJust out of interest where did you get your video copy from?

I ran a 35mm scope print of "Windjammer" at the 258 Cinema in Utica, NY in 1968 or 69. It had a mono optical track.
