This weekend a friend of mine gave me what I first thought was a parking meter. After asking him where the coins went, he showed me the nameplate on the side and I found I was now the owner of a "Tushinsky-Superscope Variable Anamorphic Projection Lens."

For those of you familiar with this piece of equipment could I ask for a little help? Am I correct in assuming that this lens fits over a standard projection lens and then can increase the size of the projected image? The Superscope must weigh a least ten lbs. so I am wondering how it is supported. Just sticking it on the end of a lens would either bend or crack the lens already in the machine. Is that what those big bolts are for on the top? Is it suspended from the ceiling?

I would very much appreciate any help some of you experienced pros could give to me. Thanks.

Its a variable anamorph, similar to the Panavision Panatar and the HiLux variable. It doesnt really 'magnify' the picture any larger or smaller, however you can use the twin rotating prisms to create an almost infinite amount of anamorphic 'squeeze' or 'unsqueeze' (fun-house images galore) This lens will work as a standard anamorphic ladapter for playing scope films as well. If its REEEEALLY heavy, there were brackets or braces that used to mount to the projector under the lens carriage that would support the extra weight of the adapter.
