Last Monday I started my usual spring maintenance so our machines are more then ready for the summer season. I use this time to thoroughly clean, repair, and rotate / change bulbs. While I was working I thought I'd post to see just how many tear these machines apart like I do. This isn't just removing the film trap, but taking these heads down to the frame. I'm talking about removing everything but the sprockets themselves. This includes everything from the shutter, to the film-path guides, to the gates. I use a shop-vac, wrags to wipe grease, paint brushes, tooth brushes, anything to get these machines spotless! When I'm done they look great. I do this about four times a year. How about you? And this isn't just "whip it out", I average four hours per machine. Now I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I want to know about your cleaning practices and seasonal maintenance.

We did this in our theatre when we opened. But we haven't done it since. We took about 4 hours per machine then. About every 3 months, I take off the Gate, Trap, Shutter houseing to show a projectionist how to clean. They seem to do it once and then forget. This version only takes about ten minutes per machine.After we cleaned the projectors the first time, the projectionist for the former theatre said; "I didn't know they were white inside."!!!

I would do this except for the fact that I probably couldn't get the machines back together correctly and then I would be in trouble.

Aaron,I make something similar twice for year. It takes me about 5 hour for projector. I never disassembled shutter.
I take all sprocket and I immerse them into a mix of trichloroethylene plus petrol, washing them with toothbrush and similar tools.
I wipe out all dust deposited deeper into the projector with air compressed.
I clean perfectly belts' rollers etc etc...
