As I watch the posts of people with problems come in I often like to check to see how fast somebody can come up with the right answer.

The fasetest one I can think of was 15 minutes. I believe it was when a projector was jittering all over the place and it turned out that there was no oil in the machine.

So, what was the fastest response time? (with the right solution) And, while we are at it, who, if anybody, has the most right answers?

Seems to me that in future write-ups or ads about Film-Tech this might be a neat little factoid to bring up.

This cannot be decided by doing a pure mathematical analysis. Suppose a script were written that could look at every thread posted to the Film handler's forum and look at the time of the first message, then look at the time of the first response. Without going through and actually reading them, you cannot know if

1. The original poster asked a question that needed an answer.

2. The first response was actually an answer to the question.

3. The first response, if an answer to a question posed in the first post, was a useful answer.

Sorry, folks, this one is not really as mathematical as it sounds. This is a natural language processing problem, and the technology isn't really there yet.

As Evans points out, this is actually an interesting problem.

The standard rule on Usenet has long been that "the fastest way to get the right answer is to post the wrong answer." The same seems to hold true here.
