I know some theaters here complain about the new plastic design vs the old wood design, the latter being prefered for more natural sound quality.any opinion ? stunned by JBL power handlings data on the plastic versions however...

The plastic ones seem to work just fine and are easier to install. You might also want to look into the 8330A if you are interested in the best sound...not as efficient nor handle as much power but it is flatter out of the box.Steve

IMHO The JBL 8340 looked better and sounded better than the 8340A. The plastic is not easy to keep clean. GMD (Given My Druthers),
I would choose the the 8340 but alas, they are not available.

EAW makes a fine THX-approved, 150 watt, 95 dB sensitivity, ALL WOOD surround speaker - called CR72i. Check it out!
