Caught a short article today in the Deseret News where Speilberg was interviewed about the upcomming re-release of ET in 2002. The negative is now going through restoration processes to enable new Technicolor prints to be made of it. The article didnlt specifically say I.B. prints but you can bet your sweet bippy that he will have them made.
They are hoping that the re-release will be as big as the original release was. It will also incorporate digital sound tracks as well. Speilieberger wants it to look and sound better than when it was first released. Hopefully they will manage to make at lease a handful(or more) of 70mm DTS prints as well.

OH, ET ! ! !I was trying to figure out what "EY" stood for. It would be cool to see ET with my niece. I wonder if our theatre will bring back Reese's Pieces.

What, no digital "prints"? I really don't think E.T. aged very well, and I love sci-fi. I really don't think it will do anything like it's original release. If Spielberger want's to be a leader on the trailing edge of technology he'll make a bunch of 70mm prints and have only a handful of theaters to show them in. Am I a cynic, or what? I still like Reese's Pieces though.

Am I the only one who really never got into ET? I mean, it was good, but it's not a movie you'd wanna see twice or anything. Kinda sappy, actually.

I wonder if Spielberg will digitally remove all guns and references to guns, as has been rumored a couple years back.. if so then BAH!!! to politically correct tampering [read: censorship].. anyways it was the 'evil Government Bad-Guys' that had all the big [shot]guns.... and they never fired a single shot... sheesh.Aaron

I thought that it was Drew Barrymore that wanted to remove all of the guns. To my knowledge, it never got taken any further than her. Maybe she will picket the movie when it is re-released!

When ET was re-released in 1985 it grossed an extra 40 million dollars. Then it was released on videotape then laserdisc. Now a theatrical re-release for it's 20th aniversary and surely a push for the DVD release. Will have to see. There are a lot of people who have not seen it on the big screen. ET was one of those films that word of mouth fueled its release in 1982. I remember seeing the sneak and the auditorium only had about 150 people in it and it held 475. I still have the button that says I saw ET on it.
