This past weekend I moved all of my projection equipment into "long-term" storage. When we "re-assembled" the soundheads and projectors back onto the pedestals - I found that somehow we bent the shaft on one of my RCA-9030 soundheads. It's the shaft that has the sound drum on one end and the oil-dampened flywheel on the other. Before anyone asks.... Yes I took the flywheels off before we moved them.
My question is... Can this be straightened - or does it have to be replaced. It still turns, but it has a definite "wobble" to it.
Any suggestions....

You can probably get a good used soundhead for less than the cost of the shaft

Replace it or you'll always have a flutter in the sound. Replacements are available from Wolk.

Better yet, visit the nearest projector graveyard and save 250 grand over the Wolk price.
The shaft cannot be strratghtened out as it was ground between centers to attain its .0001 or less tolerance. If it is visibly bent then it is way to far bent to save. Look for a parts soundhead. There are hundreds of them around.

So, what is the liklihood that the drum/shaft from a SH-1000 would fit the RCA? They look similar enough, at least superficially, that you'd think that part might be interchangeable.

9030's are getting a dime a dozen, almost. If yours is in excellent shape, find some junker and get the shaft out of it.Randy, I don't think the SH-1000 and RCA 9030 shafts are interchangable.
