Ok, our hand douser on a Christie SCL Lamphouse has 'broke' it will not stay in the open posistion. I am assuming there is a counterwieght on it and it must have fallen off. My question is this, what is the procedure for getting to this part and how do I repair it?

Dustin,
I had a similar problem and hung a weight on a bit of sash chain
which did the trick but looked terrible. I replaced the weight with
a dummy 20mm shell that must have been intended for training gunners.
A fishing sinker or plumb bob would work as well. I think the angle
the projector is tilted may affect the balance of the dowser, but I could never adjust it to work reliably without the weight. My solution may not be by the book but was fun and worked perfectly. When the theatre went non-union I unhooked my shell and left, and the theatre closed for good shortly thereafter.

Hi Dustin, Those dousers have a tight spring on them that like to break or simply come off the hanger. You should have a metal heat shield that is held on with either 4 or 6 bolts. Remove those bolts and that will give you access to the backside of the douser assembly to determine if the spring is broke or come off.

.Brian: Thanks, will do. I figured that was the way to go, but as I've said in the past on these boards, I've learned through hard lessons that you always ask how to do something first, no matter how straightforward of a job it seems.
