It's getting a re-release! It is in the quest for AFI awards (Aussie Oscars) and the DVD release is soon, plus Fox want to get it to the 30 million-mark here so I am now going to call despatch and get my copy #270 back...unless Paul Cunningham has pinched it!

Called up Fox today to make sure we get out print back (After checking our despatch records at the Ritz, it was copy 255, not 270 as I had thought it was).

It's all set to go for us and the best part is...no-one has used it since we sent it back! It opens next Thursday.

Holy cow Batman, I thought I was nearly all alone with my absolute adoration of this film. I've seen it 10 times and am on the prerelease list for the DVD. A big screen re-release on the nearterm horizon is like an early Christmas present. It is a beautiful film to watch. I see new things with each viewing. Thank you Baz!!!

Like I said, competition was stiff from another local production called 'Lantana'.

Moulin Rouge ended up with the award for Best Costumes and Best Sound, although it was nominated for all the major catagories.

Sad, but from all I hear, 'Lantana' is excellent. The rumour is that many in the AFI were hesitant to give it the nod owing to the huge amount of US dollars in this 'local' production.

The other news is that the re-release is not doing that well. It may be back for only one week.

When is that re-release in the US? It comes out on DVD here December 5. The latter fact is also in the ads in the paper. No kidding...'See it one more time on the Big Screen! Starts Today! On DVD December 5!

I caught this piece of true celluloid bedazzlement for the 11th time just before Thanksgiving (something else we should all be thankful for...Baz Luhrman) and was as giddy as I was the first time but was singing and saying character lines outloud along with many others in the audience. Will try to catch it one more time for an even dozen viewings before it disappears from the big screen. It's got it all and then some!

I saw this one last time on the big screen during its re-release at the Ritz, with John Wilson projecting.

Wow!!!

Even after hundreds of runs, this print was PERFECTION.
The credit goes to Mr. Wilson for insisting on using FilmGuard at this location, to Mr. Miller for inventing it and for the expert care that went into handling this print since it was (and still basically is) new. I should add that the Dolby Digital error rate was a steady '1' throughout!

After experiencing this, I can safely say that the argument that digital projection can offer the advantage of cleaner presentations and/or superior longevity is null and void.

You deliberately let slip that it was print #270 just so I couldn't get it.

We only finished running it last wednesday 28/12 and even then it was still doing good business.

Hi Paul...

Bought the DVD of this great movie yesterday. I haven't watched the whole thing yet but here's one interesting thing I have found...

In the finale when Ewan is walking up the aisle singing his little heart out, in the theatrical release he got to the stage and was at one point singing so hard he basically spat all over Nicole...remember??

Guess what with the DVD? No spit!

They have obviously performed the soon-to-be-patented DSR process. (Digital Spittle Removal.)

Also, the paper he's typing on and the whole typing/crying bedroom sequences have a noticable bluer tint to them.

I'm going now to check out the 2000 hours of extras.

When I played in a rock band (60s) we had this guy that would spit like that when he sang. We used red foot lights and when he'd spit it would look like sparks flying out of his mouth. It used to crack up the organ player and I. We never told him what we were laughing at.
