That can be done but the quality will depend on what kind of tape is used. If using a regular VHS, it won't come out too well but if you use 3/4 Umatic or Beta SP or something closer to broadcast quality, it will look better. It is also expensive. My lab in NY can do it and they are the most reasonable. I think it's around $200 a minute for 35mm transfer from tape. Magno sound/Lab Link is who I use and they do a nice job. Good luck.

What I would like to do is have a copy of the nike "enjoy the weather" commercial on 35. I think I could muster up a copy on 1" VT if I had to. It is currently running on major networks like MTV and I would really, really like a copy of this short on 35. are there any advertizing companies that might offer this before I go blowing $100 on a 30 second video transfer? I have seen recent TV commercials run at the drive in as recently as a year ago. help.Josh

Call Nike. They should be able to supply you with one for your theatre. I wouldn't copy something like that unless you get their permission since it is copyrighted material and the lab won't do anything unless it is PD or you own the rights.------------------

Josh, I never saw that commercial, but is it the one where a bunch of idiots are bunjee jumping form a big bridge? If it was, that was filmed 2 miles from my back yard. It was a pain in the rear, as they closed the stupid bridge to make that thing and it really screwed up the traffic here on Whidbey Island.
If this was not the commercial, did anyone ever see the one I am speaking about?

Josh, Over the summer the Franklin Drive-In in Franklin, KY was running "current" commercials on 35mm. The night we were there they featured the "Britney Spears/Pepsi" thing, some sort of shampoo/conditioner commercial & an M&M commercial. The quality of the presentation for the commercials was great - and the colors were fantastic. Too bad their print of Pearl Harbor wasn't as good as the commercials. Throughout most of Pearl Harbor there was a vertical scratch that repeatedly scrolled from the bottom to the top of the screen. When I spoke to "Larry Forshee" (the owner), he said they get paid to run the commercials. You might want to contact him to see where they get the commercials - they might have the one your looking for.
Derek, I think that a personalized trailers for the theatres would be great.

I went hunting around nike's website last night and found *.mov files of the commercials I was hunting for. I also found out what company does nike's ads and their telephone number. I think I will give them a call today and see what they say. Barry, do you have contact information for Larry Forshee? I would like to give him a call as well.Thanks again you guys,

On the subject of ads on 35mm, has anyone been actively saving these? I worked at a theater that had rolling stock and the people there threw them out when they were done with them, but I kept at least one copy of each one for posterity. I have one from last year advertising the Playstation 2, which looks great run immediately after a 1982 2-minute trailer I have from 1982 for Intellivision! I've got a DVD "Drive-In Double Feature" (with the movies Just For the Hell of It and Blast-Off Girls) that has some killer ad trailers from the 60's.

Intellivision! Oh yeah! I've got 4 of 'em (just in case "#1" ever dies), hook it up once every few years. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I remember all the guys just ooohing and ahhing about the "superb" graphics. Way better than Atari!!!!!

Well, after about 5 phone calls, I got ahold of Wieden and Kennedy, the company that does nike's ads. their "dub house" doesnt do 35 so she is going to send me 1" video tape instead, and for FREE!!. IF any of those guys are out there, thanks a bunch Derek, does this company or lab you use handle 1"?
