My Fall/Winter issue of Kodak Cinema Notes arrived today.
It's an updated revision of the old Film Notes For The Reel People
which I've been reading since it devoted its first issue in 1976-1977 to Splicing For The Professional,(highly detailed, beginning with wet-splicing with the Griswold/Neumade and Maier-Hancock models,
up through tape.)

The new issue is a beauty, with a wide range of topics on many aspects of film craftsmanship and showmanship, including digital
advances. John Pytlak continues his invaluable articles of Film Notes with his Practical Projection Pointers, with an article, "SMPTE:
Setting The Standards" There's even a new cartoon series, "Out of Frame", with a character holding forth on Eric Von Stroheim's 1924
film GREED (very timely since it's being shown 11/24 and 11/25,
with a talk by Richard Kozarski at the Saturday screening, at the Museum of the Moving Image in the old Astoria Studios in NYC--check
their website http://www.ammi.org for details.)

I was especially pleased with this second issue, because the Spring/
Summer issue, the transitional one to the new format, was such a disaster. Printed on blocks of dark color, it proved unreadable, even after three attempts, resulting in frustration and eyestrain.
The present issue is visually beautiful, intellectually exciting,
and a great pleasure to read.
