We moved out of the '50s in mid Oct. when the Magnarcs were replaced. Now, we need to be rid of carbons altogether. Has anybody installed Xenon, metal halide, halogen, etc. in Brenograph F7 lamphouses? We're using them for screen ads at 35 amps, 110 ft throw, and 15 ft. square image. Brightness is adequate. Any suggestions?

I would have stayed with carbons myself. I suppose you could slap an old ORC M-1000 lamphouse on there, but it wouldn't be a Brenograph anymore.

The Brenograph lamphouse is very similar to the old Hall and Connoly lamphouses and Radio City Music Hall converted there H&C and Kliegl follow spots over to using a HMI lamp

The Brenographs at Radio City were also converted to HMI. There used to be a Brenograph at the Imax theatre in Niagara Falls that had two small Cinemeccanica lamphouses which replaced the carbon.

In our Premier Effects slide lantern we use a CP85 tungsten halogen lamp 240 volt 5,000 watts (G38 base) which is fan cooled and on a dimmer. Well covers light receptive curtains 30’ x 20’ even with full houselights.In our other smaller Premier lantern for showing normal 4 x 3 slides we use a CP73 or CP41 tungston halogen lamp 240 volt 2,000 watts (G38 base).
I would however investigate the HMI type of lamp first as they might be more efficient, learning from Gordon they are used in Radio Music Hall. Bill,In the Osram book there are three HMI lamps similar in size and shape to the tungsten halogen lamp I use, and with the same type G38 base. Might be worth investigating.
HMI 1200 W/SE 54067. 1200 watts 100 volts. 110000 Luminous flux (life 750 hours).
HMI 2500 W/SE 54070. 2500 watts 115 volts. 240000 Luminous flux (life 500 hours).
HMI 4000 W/SE 54072. 4000 watts 200 volts. 380000 Luminous flux (life 500 hours).
(CP85 Tungsten halogen 5000 watts 230 volts. 135000 Luminous flux (life 400 hours)

For years retrofitting Mole Richardson spotlight with the Thorn 1K CSI or the 1K CID lamp was popular
Rank Strand used to have converted followspots I think it was the Pat293 using them.
I once in my younger foolish days tried converting a Patt23N over to it
