I think i have hinted at the question on other threads but:

Does SDDS have EX encoding?

For example if a watch a film (SRD-EX/DTS-ES/SDDS-8) in a threatre which has SDDS 8 and EX decoders and the cinema has decided to run in
SDDS. (ok Harry potter at pictureville for example)

Then:

Will the film be decoded into

5 front channels, 1 sub channel, 2 surrounds
or
5 front channels, 1 sub channel, 3 surrounds?

Yes it would have 5 front channels, 3 surround and the subwoofer (this presuming it is SDDS-8 and EX, examples would be Star Wars EP:1 and Harry Potter).

I have never heard of SDDS EX. To my knowledge, SDDS-8 refers to left, left center (or left extra, between the left and center channles), center, right center (or right extra, between the center and right channels), right, left surround, right surround, and sub.

Does the left and right surround tracks on SDDS contain the EX data to be decoded into the extra channel?

As the SRD and DTS does.

Giving us 4 possible configurations of SDDS:
SDDS-6, SDDS-7 (EX)
SDDS-8, SDDS-9 (EX)

Since ALL of the 3 'branded' digital tracks are made from the same 6 or 8-channel master (with the LC and RC channels of the 8-channel mix being folded into the L and R channels for the 6-track versions), then ANY film mixed with EX surrounds WILL decode EX thru a suitable EX decoder, regardless of playback format.
