Can readers be swapped around? That is, can I plug any reader into any SDDS unit? I'd like to try swapping two readers to find a static problem. The questionable unit is a R2000, and I have an extra R3000. Can I switch them?

You can swap 2000 series readers between 2000 series processors and likewise with 3000 series systems, but you cannot run a 2000 series reader with a 3000 series processor, or vice versa.

The 2000 and 3000 series readers are radically different and can not be swapped between the series. They have completely different cables and connectors so you couldn't do it if you tried. However, within either series, they can be switched at will. That is, the decoders do not care which reader is feeding it. Remember neither a 2000 or 3000 series reader is hot swappable so be sure to power down the system before unplugging or plugging the reader cables.Steve

John, Steve answer your question, we use to put DFP-2000 in Roll arounds carts, I have found we have more problems with these units then if we left them parked in a sound rack, my advise to anyone is not to roll them around, parked them in a sound rack & leave them, they will last a lot longer than rolling them around....

OK, so it looks like I can't do what I wanted ...I wanted to swap them for trouble-shooting reasons, not for use with a roll-around rack.
We have only a few SDDS units, so I don't get a lot of experience with them.

Actually, I'm not sure yet. The theater called and said the sound was "distorted," like "static." There is a CP65 there also, and when they switch to regular analog, it sounds OK. So, I'm ruling out amps, speakers and monitor (it's a THX house.) I don't have another 2000 series processor to swap PC boards from (if any can be swapped.)I had them switch prints to see if that might be it... but even with another feature, the problem remains.

John, it sounds to me like you have a bad APR-06 board in the processor. I would recommend switching that board out between another unit to see if the problem follows. I would tend to doubt that your problem is the reader.
