Does anybody have a manual and/or advice for a LP Associates Xenon power supply MODEL 8532-2 .... we have one that is faulty. It throws the circuit breaker, and gives a loud 'pop' sound from the recitifier, also sparks from around the diode block area... any ideas anyone? ... I can't 'see' anything that 'looks' faulty.

Sounds like shorted diode(s) are the problem. The diodes may not "look bad" but if you take them out of circuit and test them with a meter, chances are they are shorted in both directions.

You undid each diode and checked them individually? Then they all checked ok? You could have a bad filter capacitor or bum contactor.

I had the same thing happen to me. I use LP Associate power supplies for the Skytracker skylights. The only thing is that they use a remote ignitor board and it had a problem with that. I did change out the diodes on positive side and the negative side. Just becareful on installing diodes on the negative side. Make sure that they are the reversable type,ie, the arrow printed on the side of the diode is printed showing the reverse direction. If any of the diodes were shorted, you would hear a loud buzzing sound coming from the transformers and the output voltage dropped quite low. I know because I had a power supply for a seven KW XENON lamp do this to me. The circuit breaker did not trip, and it too, was made by LP Associates. Good luck, Art

Check the boost supply it can give grief
Also check for the source of the sparks closly as the fault is probably in that area

just for kicks, replace all of the diodes anyway, just too double check if they really are good. It is possible for a diode to chech out fine with a meter but fail under load. (Some of the Strong rectifiers have done this to me several times

)
