I am running Kinoton PK60D's with Big Sky Series 1 automation. I noticed that when the manual "Changeover" (or maybe it is labled "Dowser"?) button on the automation is pressed, the changover only stays open while the button is depressed. When you let go, it closes again. If my automation craps out and I need to start the show manually, how do I keep the changover open?------------------
This one time, at Projection Camp, I stuck a xenon bulb....

I don't know what is wrong, but I can tell you that's not how it's suppose to work. Usually you just press it and it will stay open - press the other direction to close. The only other switch that is momentary contact on the automation should be masking/lens turret. There is a manual for the Big Sky Series 1 in the manuals section. I can only guess that switch may be bad, or wired incorrectly. I recently worked with the same automation, and had one with a bad power switch.Steven Gorsky
Edit: I forgot to mention that the changeover/douser is extremely quiet on these machines, so be sure to look for it opening and closing - you may not even hear it.

The FP3?'s that I look after in Edinburgh don't have automation, but do this if the C/O button is pressed and the projector isn't running with film in. One of the rollers has a centrifugal or similar switch built in, you can pull it gently out by hand to make the thing run. The ones in Edinburgh will also stop if you release the 'START' button, and there's no film laced. It makes running test loops a pain, so some enterprising individual placed a tie-wrap around the end of that roller assembly, which you can use the uncut end of to jam the roller in the 'out' position.

Ken,Was the PK-60D's motor running when you did your little experiment? As per many European tradition, the changeover douser functions as the fire douser as well. Therefore, the changeover hold circuit is broken when the motor is not running. Try it with the motor running....I'll wager it performs as expected then (both open and close).
