My question is this: What education should a projectionist
who wants to remain employed with the coming of Digital
Projection get for himself/herself? Maybe John Pytlak is
the best person toanswer this question. Or is there someone
here from an exhibitor who can answer it?

Look for the similarities in the technology and build on those skills. Digital Cinema will use xenon lamps, power supplies, lenses, screens, and digital sound systems including processors, amplifiers and speakers. Much of the equipment will be modular, allowing on-site replacement when hardware fails. Urgent on-site repairs will need a skilled projectionist, or the system will be down while waiting for a service engineer (e.g., recent "hiccup" problems). You will still need to assemble and present shows with a sense of scheduling and showmanship. The "computer" skills required will vary with the operating system. Kodak's Digital Cinema Operating System is designed to be very "user friendly" to anyone familiar with theatre operation:

IMHO, Film Projection and Digital Cinema will co-exist for many years to come, so you have some time to make the transition.
