I've encountered a strange problem with New Line prints and my projector. I'm running a Pro35 with a tungsten soundhead (we're converting to LED in a month). The sound starts off just fine, but after 30 mins or so we get a buzzing or motorboating sound. It seems the soundtrack drifts ever so slightly as the film is running. I've checked the slit lens and its tight, and I've had 2 techs look at it. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Tech #1 told me that with the LED conversion the problem should go away because the scanning beam is finer and will overlap onto the film less. Tech #2 just thinks I'm crazy. Suggestions?

Probably the guide roller on the damper assembly is allowing play or has worn or is loose

Does it happen with other films? Prints can be defective, unfortunately.One thing to look for: There is a collar that holds the entire pivot shaft snugly in the soundhead casting which will not allow for lateral movement of the entire assembly. I have seen them work loose, which will then allow lateral movement. They are a bitch to tighten.
A simple test is to grab ahold of the guide roller arm where it goes into the soundhead casting and check for lateral movement. (I think this is the area Godron was addressing in his post.)
If that thing is loose, reverse scan will probably not correct the problem. As time goes on, the situation will become worse. Check that collar. Don't spend a king's ransom to try and correct a problem that is elsewhere.
