I have a few Simplexes. I know I know.... envy me. Anyway one of these machines likes to drift out of frame. Here is a good example: I set the framing so the green band is perfectly in center the first show of the day. Next show it looks OK. The show after that the green band needs adjusting again, since the machine has drifted slightly out of frame. Is there any way to stop this? I can't see any way to get to the framing mechanism internally. If there is a way to tighten this down, then I also assume I could lock the framing knob so it could never be moved again? That would be perfect.

Joe, the spring clips that provide a drag on the intermittant casting are worn out and should be replaced. Sorry, I could not find the part number.

The part number you want is a "P-1705 framing cam retainer spring". The part sold now is a spring steel piece with two fingers that hold the framing carrage. 35mm machine uses two of them 180' apart. The 35/70 uses two in each position for a total of four. These can break or lose tension. Using four will not hurt the machine if so desired. There are other things such as a loose shutter compensator that adds to the overall looseness of the framing carrage.

Yes, the P-1705's are the part number I was looking for. They are easy to install. I was incorrect when I said "casting", I meant the framing carrage that Dick speaks of. Sorry......

Had the same problem. I found worn gaskets UNDER the retainer springs to be the cause. Just something else to check...

There should not be anything under the fingers. I am not aware of any gasket there and nothing shows in the manual. They should be holding the intermittent carrage by themselves.

I was not aware of a gasket, either. Could it be someone used some gasket material to shim the worn clips? I'll bet it was....as a temporary fix.
