New feature of the forums...

If you work for a manufacturing company or a dealer, please send an email to register@film-tech.com and give us your full name (exactly as it appears on the forums) and the company you work for or represent. This is not intended to be used for theater personnel, or company techs, but for equipment manufacturers, equipment dealers, and service companies.

A few examples:
Pat Moore - Strong International
John Pytlak - Kodak
Richard Fowler - TVP Miami

Please note, this is optional, but will help to distinguish representatives from companies from our regular members. There has been some request for this and we're ready to implement it. This will replace your "film handler" status.

There is one exception to this rule...you MUST have submitted a picture of yourself. The reason for this is that the coding for your custom status is in the same line of code that your picture encoding is. Plus people like to see who they are talking to.

I've emailed as requested Brad, but for the record, I've never stated who I work for and in what capacity before, as I'm here for and as me, if you see what I mean.
Also it may be harder for people to take advice given to them if the advice can't be seen to be totally impartial. I'm not really explaining myself clearly here, but hopefully you'll get the drift, I really don't care for the sales pitch that sometimes (less often lately) appears in posts. This is a free discussion forum, not an advertisement.

The only Kodak salesmen are found in camera stores. I personally wouldn't find it hard to take advice from someone even if they weren't trying to sell me something. But I do see your point about that, but I don't think it's too much of a distraction, as you said, this forum is all about open discussion, and not about selling something.

Pete, apparently you skimmed the post and didn't read it. This is optional, not a requirement. The reason for it is so when someone asks a question and gets multiple responses that differ, the member can easily distinguish from the real rep's advice. Let's face it, *most* of the time people would like to hear directly from the manufacturer or a dealer when problems arise. This will help that. Again, this is optional if you do not want people to know, but however I feel you would be doing them just as much of a disservice by not posting who you work for if there might be a bias of any sort. It's ultimately your decision.

Dave, actually no, as I understand it John's job is to represent Kodak on the internet. He is a salesman just as much as someone in a camera store selling Kodak film. He is just providing us with info and answering questions rather than putting film in our hands and pointing us to the cash register. In the end though, he is still just as much of a salesman for Kodak as a member who works for a manufacturing company or dealer. This is not a bad thing, for when the definitive answer is needed regarding something Kodak-related, John is always there for everyone to give that answer. The same would be true of any other rep.

I'm always here to help users of Kodak film and digital systems. But as many have also found, when I can, I'll help get the best results from ANY film or projection system, and am not afraid to state my own PERSONAL opinion (which I will usually label as IMHO, AFAIC, etc.).

Brad you're right I didn't see the bit that said optional. Reading is not a strong point of mine I'm afraid.

I've no objection to this, and on reflection, I can see your point about people wanting to hear from the manufacturer or dealer. I'm probably just being paranoid!
