Re: Dolby Cat.700 Digital Reader

On my way out of a booth, to yet another emergency call, the projectionist showed me how the upper idler arm was quite stiff to close. He wasn't kidding either! (Took me two hands to close it).

In hurried desparation tried a quick splash of oil but to no avail. I could not see any easy way to get this thing apart, in the short amount of time I had.

Anyone had one of these off and what tool do I need?

Yea, I've had quite a few of these on CAT 700's, never on a 701 though. The curley que(Actually, RCA) spring gets stuck in the hole of the main alumnium casting. You will need a drill the size of the hole to clean out the oxidation that you will find in the hole. Coating the end of the spring with SuperLube will keep it from sticking again. Be sure to have your number size drill set with you!!
