I have a Kelmar 8500 table, with a 7500 tables control unit. This is not the problem, as it has worked fine this way for 10 years. I think, however, that the motor has gone bad, although it still turns. At slow speeds (either direction), it will pop the motor circuit breaker in the control box aprox 30 seconds after it starts turning, even with no film load. At normal winding speeds, it trips the breaker and blows the fuse in the back of the control box almost immediately. My question is, could it be something other than the motor? Does anyone have a spare used motor for a Kelmar 8500 that they would like to sell.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Might be worth also checking the bridge rectifer and the variac i have both of those items fail

My problem has been isolated down the something in the control box (the motor is fine). Is the bridge rectifer the little square thing with 4 wires attached to it?/Mitchell

Yes, that's the rectifier.I recently replaced the motor on mine because some of the commutator segments had shorted. The windings themselves proved to be fine. I experimented with turning it down myself but in the end decided it was simpler just to replace it. But a motor shop or really anyone with a lathe could probably make it like new.

A friend of mine loaned me a control box from a currently unused table, which worked fine. That ruled out the motor, so it has to be as Gordon suggested, either the rectifier or the variac in the control box. This weekend I am going to investigate further./Mitchell
