I have a couple V5 shutter gear boxes that have been rebuilt. They appear to be on the tight side. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to loosen them some.
You can feel the difference when you hand turn the projector.

Who did the rebuilding? It should be stiff since you are rotating a small timing gear at 1440 rpm but not overly tight. we shipped 5 rebuilt units from our office today.

I rebuild these gear boxes for a few different chains out there ( I work for A.C.E.) and always run them in at a higher speed than normal. I have a modified V-5 projector that will go beyond 24fps. This tends to loosen them up a bit, but keep in mind that the gear lash on the these things is fairly tight and should loosen up over time. I also fill mine up with synthetic Red grease from AMS Oil, a far superior grease compared to the OEM grease.

I usually put in some STP or fill them with APG90 gear oil so it is fluid enough to flow backinto the gear mesh
