Who has the best deals on 35mm Splicing tape, leader, etc?
I usually order from Neumade as I understand Neumade splicing tape is the best, but I may be wrong on that as well.

My personal preferences are:

*Neumade brand clear splicing tape (no substitute)
*Kodak lens solution (Rosco and CPI make good substitutes)
*Kodak lens tissue (Rosco and CPI make good substitues. Also I hear *Schneider has a great lens cleaningcloth, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet.)
*Neumade's Xelar frameline leader (NT Audio/Visual and CPI makes good substitutes)
*Mag fullcoat opaque film for black leader (no substitutes)
*Any super cheap "medium" bristle toothbrush from Wal-Mart (the cheaper the better, no fancy "reach" type)
*Shop rags from Wal-Mart
*FilmGuard of course
*Film-Tech media pads (Kelmar or Neumade pads work fine too, but you'll have to manually roll those brands of cleaning media over to the coupler cores if you are going to use FilmGuard)
*Genuine projector oil from the manufacturer, no "one oil for all machines" type (haven't played much with synthetics yet)
*Trailer flanges from Neumade (other brands do not fit the cores properly)
*Split reels from Goldberg (other brands are acceptable, but Neumade's split reel does not properly fit cores)
*Platter reel from Goldberg (mandatory)
*Neumade 35SS splicer (no substitutes)
*Permacel white Artist's tape (no masking or drafting tape)
*Sharpie markers (Wal-Mart again)
*Either CPI's precut automation cues (1000 to a roll) or Neumade's Aucuta II cue strips (this depends on the make of your cue readers)
*Hollywood Film Company 2000' plastic reels and Goldberg 6000' reels

What else could you possibly need? Nothing else is required.

CPI for sure can get you all of this as a one-stop shopping place (except the Wal-Mart stuff). However, most of the better dealers can get you everything on that list as well.

One alterative to the red shop rags that I found and have liked, is a box of white cotton t-shirt type material generally cut into 1 1/2' squares. Soft, dosen't leave much lint, absorbant, easily washed. Comes in a box, however I don't remember the quantity. I'll have to track down where they came from, either Wal-Mart or an automotive shop.

I think Goldberg has the others beat on trailer flanges. They now have alumnium ones in addition to their lab grade micarta flanges.

Note that they take either male or female cores. The female core (2" and up) drive key is spring loaded and retracts for use with 1" male cores...this puts friction on the core to cut down on slipping.

That's pretty inventive there. But how wide is the opening at the red arrow?

So far of the ones I've worked with, only Neumade's flange is wide enough to allow the black cores to easily slide on. All other flanges seem to have made that slit at an exacting match to the cores, which can make it hard to insert or extract a core from the flange.

That there measurement is 0.128". I just test fitted a black and a yellow core...fits nice and smooth.
