Not sure if this belongs here, but anyway...We were informed today that all theatres are getting reel 1 replaced due to a problem with the credits.
Anyone know about it?

FWIW, credits are often changed at the last minute, due to contractual negotiations. Labs usually print the first and last reels AFTER the middle reels, just in case there are some last minute changes to the titles and credits. ------------------

When Small Time Crooks was released over here they had to reprint all the reel 1s because the wrong distributor logo had been placed on the start. Just sending out replacement logos with a note asking projectionists to change them would have been a hell of a lot cheaper. But I presume that the distributor was willing to pay a five-figure sum to guard against the possibility that the changes might not be done.

A similar thing must have happened with THE CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION. It had 2 logos at the beginning. I saw it before it was released, and it played normally. But when we got our print, the order of the logos had been reversed, but the sound hadn't.

I didn't record the details but I noticed the soundtrack date on the replacement reel was about two weeks later than the original reel. Both were dated 2002 July.

Yes, this was grand news, and indeed I got the replacement reel late Wednesday (10/9/02). Just what I needed with six prints to build up and nine to break down on Thursday. Throw in an intermittent replacement, a lost trailer packet for White Oliander that never did show up, and a DTS drive replacement and Thursday was just a perfect day! 
What amazes me is the cost that Buena Vista incurred just to ship out all those replacement reels(on cores no less) and demand pickup on Friday of the old reels. And you wonder why the studios claim they don't make money?

I know where you're coming from. Thursday: 10 makeups, 5 demand breakdowns on top of the Moonlight Mile replacement. They must really love us!

Well I HAD no bad things to say about Technicolor over the last several months...until today.I took a call today from Technicolor regarding a print pickup. They want it by X time. I told them that normally that would be no problem, but that this theater on that one particular shift had a brand new projectionist that had not yet been shown how to build/break down and due to various circumstances none of the other guys could make it in to take care of it. They didn't care. I explained that if this guy gets flustered he might put the wrong leaders on the wrong reels or cut the movie not at the reel change if there is some Airborne guy hollering to hurry up. I requested another hour delay on the pickup so that an experienced guy could get in there to make sure it was broken down properly. No dice. They didn't care whether there was a chance this print could get damaged. Not even for a 1 hour delay, of which I know would not have made enough of a difference to matter in this situation.
Screw quality it's overrated anyway.

I've had Airborne arrive for a "scheduled" pick-up that was 1/2-hour after show start. "Come back in two hours!" I've no idea if that was really scheduled or not.

The TES/Airborne missed pickup fee used to be $20 (oh, the pain! ). It might have gone up in the past few years, we haven't had one in ages...--jhawk
