I recieved a print of "The Ring" today and written on the can under the title of the movie was "rear captioned." I was just wondering what this meant (TES didn't know and they printed it!) or if there was anything I should watch for when building it or while running it. Any help would be great.

Maybe it means that there are DTS-CSS discs available for that title.

Haven't previous posts described a system for the hearing impaired in which captions appear on a LED display board on the rear wall of the theatre, in reversed lettering, readable from mirrors mounted in cup holders? What's it called again?

If I remember correctly, ANY DTS timecoded film regardless of what the leaders say can use the CSS rear-caption system if you use the CSS compatible discs for said title.-Aaron

Gerard has it right, Rear Captioned film has the dialogue up on a board supplied by Trans-Lux onto a lucite panel which is placed into the cup holder of the seat for the hearing impaired. This was developed by WGBH in Boston and is distributed by our friends at Boston Light & Sound.
The LED Board is mounted on the auditorium side of the booth wall and is picked up by reflection on the lucite panel.
It works great.

Thanks for the info. Does this mean that the info is on the DTS discs? If so I wondering why they sent it to us and did not inculde the DTS discs at all with it.

Bob,We used to be the exclusive distributor of the Rear Window system for several years. We provided marketing, design assistance, installation drawings, tech support, etc. We no longer do this as the circuits essentially said they didn't want any of these services, they just wanted lower prices. We do still manufacture the seat reflectors for the system.

It means that there are rear window captions available for this film. You need the DTS-CSS system and rear display to see the captions.Karen at DTS

Richard,You got the wrong discs! You should get TES to send you the correct discs. The discs you got are for rear window captions only.
