Hello All,
Long time no see. Business. Well I hope I find u all in good health 
. There is something that's been troubling my mind for some time now. All those who worked with Cinemeccanica Victoria 4's will surely have noticed a small "hatch" just on the left of the gate. When u push it to open u can see the shutter blade. Now. My question is. What is the use of that "hatch". Any Ideas? Here's one. Before when there were no lamps and the light was driven by carbon arc coals, that hatch was opened to give light to the projectionist to read a book!!!! YES is does work. The light it gives is very stong.

Dear Demetris Thoupis,Happy to see your question here. I have not operated the machine you describe but am very familiar with others by this maker.
The "hatch" you describe is the access to the drum shutter portion of the light path. Through this opening you can see the shutter and its attachment to the shaft. There are screws which fasten the shutter to its shaft and behind the screws are slotted openings in the drum. The shutter is "timed" by turning the drum beneath the loosened screws. Once properly "timed", the screws are again tightened securely.

The V-4 has a disk shutter like a Simplex or Century. The V-10 / Portacine / and some older models prior to V-4 have a barrel shutter.

It can be fitted with a green welders glass so you can see the image of the spot of light on the apperture when focusing a lamphouse

So kenneth. That is what is for!!! I adjusted the shutter timer on several of these machines and had to back of the lamphouse and then remove the cover. I will check it if this way works. By the way. One other question. Has anyone tried to install a Digital Penthouse reader on these babies? Do u have any photos of the brackets used or something. I might be moving a used smart processor along with speakers and amplifiers to a small village (new cinema)with a used VIC 4 and they asked for digital sound. What are the capabilities since I never installed a penthouse digital reader on a Vic 4 nor a digital adapter on a Smart processor. Suggestions please

There should be adapter plates avaiable from Dolby for it
