Has anybody else received a semi-frantic call from Technicolor, ordering them not to play the DTS discs they received with I Spy? They want mine picked up before my first show Friday, and aren't sure when the "new" set will be sent to me.The discs I have aren't defective... they played fine with 2 sneak preview shows. Perhaps a last minute change?

The discs may old mastered dialogue or sound on them. They may be different from the other sound tracks. Would not be the first time something like this has happened.

As far as I know we did not recieve a call today. Nobody told me anything. However, the DTS did drop out in one of the reels for about 2 or 3 minutes. I think it was reel one or two during the video teleconferancing scene I believe. Anyway, that was the only place I noticed it dropping out. There was an interesting little note that came in the film cans. It was talking about how the director, Betty Thomas, really liked the mix of the dolby digital track and wanted theaters to run the film in that format if they had it. Wouldn't you think that the mix would be the same for DTS?

I'll bet just about anything she saw her movie in an SRD theater that had better acoustics and a better B-chain than another place that had dts or sdds and she chalked it up to SRD having a better mix/sound to it.

I've been wondering about that for the last week. Our bookings report said that I SPY was *NOT* in SDDS. Huh?? Isn't it a Sony movie? Then we got a fax that said "Please play I SPY in SR*D if your theater is equipped to do so." Then when I built it up and saw that there WAS indeed an SDDS track, I was left scratching my head wondering what's wrong with it. Now I'm hearing here that the DTS disks have to be sent back too? Very curious. Has anyone here listened to the SDDS or DTS tracks yet?

I have listened to the DTS and it sounds good to me. Except for that drop out I mentioned above. Buy the way I still have not heard anything about having to send the discs back.

Odd since the DTS disks are mastered off the same 5.1 dat that is used to feed the SRD encoder

The showing of I Spy that I just saw definitely had some problems with the digital sound. I don't know if it was DTS or SR-D though. I noticed the problems starting in reel 4. The sound would occasionally "reverb" for just a split second, like it was repeating something. At other times, it sounded like a few milliseconds of dialog was clipped out and missing - skipping. This continued thru reels 4 & 5. These faults were subtle but definitely there.

The I SPY disc was redone to add a trailer. There was no remix done. There was no need for Technicolor to panic. Don't know why they did.Karen at DTS
