I am working on getting my Holmes website back up and running again. I am wanting to expand it to include images of other peoples machines.

These machines were not used in many theatre settings, but I do know that some were. Seems like I remember seeing an image of a pair of these on the net somewhere.

I'd like to include a history of this machine, how it came to be, and why they did some of the things on it that they did. One example I heard is in the case of the sound gate, the designers of the Holmes did not want to pay royalties to (I believe) Western Electric for their sound-drum/flywheel design, so they came up with what they have on the finished machine. Another question would be the use of that awful framing lever. Other than cheaper, why?

Several Holmes owners have been kind enough to send me some images of their machines. I've seen things on some of these machines that I may try to add to mine. If any of you can help in this endeavor, I will be most appreciative.

It was Greg Mueller that had some pix of a Holmes in a theater in Port Gamble, Washington. That theater is now a post office. I have a couple of b&w pix of myself with a couple of Holmes machines in the booth of the Capitol Theater here in Olympia, Wash.

The deal with Holmes' sound gate was with the RCA patent, not Western Electric. Wasn't there someone on one of the forums who was in contact the grandson or some other relative of the Holmes family?

As for images, I need them. I have a scanner, but am having trouble getting it to work with Windows 95. We also recently aquired a digital camera that will come in handy for image-taking.

I appreciate all help that you folks can give me. I am saving everything I get.

The graemlin in my previous post reminds me of an old Ren and Stimpy episode where they find a use for Stimpys hair balls. Not pretty.
