Can a Cinemeccia V-5 shutter gearbox be rebuild ?? If so what parts do I need, I feel a strip gear inside gearbox, I haven't open it yet, or do I need to replace the gearbox ?? I do not have a parts break down on this unit...thanks

Don, the parts manual is in the "manuals" section of this website. Look on page 11. It will show you everything that's inside of that beast. Yes it can be rebuilt, but don't plan on doing it between shows someday. It would be a good idea to have a spare shutter box assembly on hand as a spare because the entire box can be changed out easily and quickly. As far as what parts will you need, take the thing apart and take a look. (Probably bearings, at least one gear, and perhaps some of the washers)

The box is easy to rebuild. there are two types which I assume you have the older version with the nylon gears...even through the gear faces are the same, they use two different part numbers for the gears since there are differences. A good mechanic can do this under an hour and we used to ultrasonically clean the casting prior to reassembly. Cinemeccanica a few years ago switched to a different gearbox which utilizes steel gears, which are noisy, so they encase the casting with a rubber cover; both are interchangeable. The unit should be packed with grease which is more for the shafts than the gear faces since in operation the moving gears create a void in the lubricant.
