Tom, VERY good article and well written. I wish you wouldn't stop at the L.A. theaatres though.....There are other many supposedly great theatres that deserve to be given the "Holman treatment too!!

Yes, let's force poor Tom to visit EVERY theater in North America! I would loooove to hear what he would have to say about my theater, though I'm sure the owners wouldn't.

Good article and great reading.

Vindication! [Wink] When I saw "The Rookie" at the Arclight back in May last year, I noticed a severe echo problem in that house. I mentioned it here. Tom mentions the echo problem at Arclight too.

Joe--I have no idea how good (or bad) the sound quality is in your theatre, but I'm sure that it would improve tenfold if you would install a Cine Gong in every house.

Joe would be banging that gong more than Alex Van Halen on the 1984 Tour! But the lobby in his theater looks really nice!

Geez Joe,
Not every theatre, just the important ones......He'd just send you around to review the smaller locations...

How many movie theaters (screens) are there in the US?

At the end of of 2001, there were just under 35,000 indoor screens in the US, but I couldn't tell you how many theatres that covers. Also about 650 drive-in screens, or as Variety liked to call them, "ozoners".
