Anyone know what type of oil to use with a Hortsen P60?
Ours is about 20 years old and has never had the oil changed. We only use it about twice a year, so nothing tragic.

SAE40 non detergent or basically soundhead oil

Hey Gord,
In this thread you say the Hortson used SAE40 ND, but in another thread "oil for the Simplex XL circa 1949" on 01-22-2000 you posted a "cheat sheet" saying SAE 30. Which is the closest? Or doesn't it matter?

I have two cans here that were tested by imperial oil one came with the normandie machine and it was straight sae 40
The can that had come with a type G was 30
I doubt they really care what is in them other than they leak like a seive when it is two light and on a cold day they are slow to start if heavy

I have a number of Hortsons in bits and have no motivation to put them back together. They're one of the projectors I just don't particularly care for.

I installed a rebuilt Horston on a custom drive plate to replace a Kodak Pageant with xenon + loop cabinet for a show at Seaworld/ Orlando in the early 1970's.....the Pageant broke down daily...the Horston ran for three years. ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

We used to service a bunch of porn joints that ran 'em 24/7 and they kept on running.
Sort of like a Pro35 or V4 I guess. Does it grind away for a long while? Y Is the image and sound quality really good? N. Would I ever consider it a "favorite" or "best" machine? N.
But compared to Bauer, Eastman, Zeiss/Prevost and (of course) Philips/Kinoton, the Hortsons leave me uninspired.
