THE CORE - 2003

Does anyone else have an issue with "The Core" in DTS? I received an e-mail stating that we would be receiving new DTS discs due to an issue with the ones that were in the can. Delivery is set for Saturday. Has anyone else heard about this?

We are also suppose to be overnighted new DTS disks with the instructions to destroy the current ones. Though I have a good one. Our print of the Core although brand new, had a preview spliced on to it in a manner which suggest that it was a last minute job. How do I know? Well who ever did it not only spliced it in TAIL first, but they also neglected to cut the head off the trailer. So we have the head of reel one going to the tail of the attached trailer (tape splice) going to the head of the attached trailer going to the Paramount logo siginaling the start of the movie. So has anyone else have had something like this happen to them before?

Received word this afternoon from our principle owner that the DTS discs of our prints of The Core are bad. Awaiting replacements.

New discs for THE CORE should arrive shortly. The new ones will be blue in color. The problem with the disc are not techincal in nature.

Personally, I am pissed off at this print. I too had the attatched trailer literally "attatched" with a piece of white artist's tape, cut at the green band, with a LAB SPLICE in it, and then spliced on to the head of the movie leaving just 4 frames of black between the trailer's credits and the paramount logo. [Mad]

Also, the tail of Reel 3 had an extra perf's worth of image printed after the last true frame. Never saw that before.

I was curoius about the discs and was going to try and play them anyway, but my manager already destroyed them, literally. [Roll Eyes]

The real question is, which set of discs (new or old) match the other sound formats?

Up to the time I left, our print ran thru fine as well. It had to have been in R4 when I left and no problems..

Which leaves me to wonder, WHY the chnage? What exactly IS the issue with them if some play fine and others no not, yet it's not technical?

I have an Idea what it could be. If you look on your disc the trailer printed on was to be Against the Ropes. That has changed. Now the Attached trailer is The Italian Job and loose is Tomb Raider 2 and time something or another. They probably wanted to get these trailers added on to the disc. Now why that would prevent one from playing the discs I Don't know.

That's a good theory, but if so, why change out both discs? Why not just change out the A disc since that is the disc that carries the trailer audio?

Think about this too...a last minute disc pressing of 6000+ discs, plus the cost to overnight ship with a Saturday delivery to every theater opening The Core...just how important is it that trailer play in digital sound??? An interesting theory, but if that turns out to be the reason I will be amazed at the waste of money.

Yes, a waste of money. And if this IS the real reason, it would piss me off to no extent that theater(re)s such as ours who only have DTS were not able to play the movie in digital for part of the opening weekend because of a dumb trailer change. But I already said this print pissed me off.

Oh well, at least I threw that snazzy "Flying Disc" DTS trailer on. Thanks Karen! [thumbsup]

I did a "quality control" check of this print early this AM and found nothing wrong with either it, or the DTS disks. There were 2 VERY brief situations in the movie where it looked like someone made a comment (or they mumbled or something) and I didn't hear it, but otherwise it was fine. If the attached trailer is bogussed up our new guy must have caught it and either fixed it or removed it.

The issue has to do with a change in a song during the end credits. Nothing else is "wrong" with or "bad" about the original discs. The new discs are on their way and the artwork on them will be blue in color (the original discs had red artwork).

Yes, I know it is a simple matter to replace a disc with an altered soundtrack such as a new song over the end credits with DTS but what about the existing SRD and analogue SR soundtrack on the print that cannot be changed unless Paramount sends out a new print of the last reel with the new song?

Given the information we have, I would guess Paramount re-printed all of the reel 7s.

We got an email in the UK just yesterday requesting us to destroy our DTS discs too. This must be costing a pretty penny.
