I was checking over a print the other day, and it had the words, "Over/Lay Print" on the leader. What does this mean?

Overlay usually refers to printing from two negatives sandwiched together, or optically combined, often used for subtitles. Also known as "bi-pack" printing:

Bi-Pack is best done on a pin-registered step printer, either contact or optical. When done on a continuous contact printer, bi-pack often has more unsteadiness than if the proper short-pitch to long-pitch relationship is maintained.

Theoretically on a continous contact printer, the negatives would need to be BH-1866 and BH-1870. The raw stock print film would need to be even longer pitch, probably KS-1874. [Wink]

John, that's interesting because this is not a subtitled print.
