Regal has been rolling out its digital preshow called "The Twenty". The AMC Empire in NYC has expanded its preshow to run more or less like "The Twenty".

At the Empire the preshow uses slides in a digital format developed by NCN and Boeing. This has been the case since the theater opened 3 years ago. When showtime comes, the digital system switches to another digital format for 2-3 video snippets followed by rolling-stock adverts. As this segment ends the booth starts the 35mm projector. Snipes, trailers and feature run as usual.

Yesterday part of this system broke down and nearly caused a show to start late. When it came time to switch from slides to video snippets/rolling stock, the screen went black for a good 2-3 minutes. I had to run out to alert the floor staff. The digital system came back on with sound but no image. After about 30 seconds the booth overrode the digital system and got the trailers on screen.

At least I got to see the feature (The Dancer Upstairs) without any rolling stock.

In the past you've admitted to reading SLC's Desert News...now you admit to ACTUALLY GOING INTO one of those regal movie dumps.....? Man, you gotta get to a good house of shows soon...must be someplace near you that film is done right......

Do the film projectors start automatically or does someone in the booth start them? If they have to be timed exactly when the ad thing ends there seems to be a big screwup potential.
