Scott, it actually read barcode labels attached to the prints for all kinds of cues. The UA Theatre circuit used them, don't recall any other chain picking them up.
UA obviously did not follow what happened to AMC and SDDS

I was involved in the edge code project. I believe the more sophisticated version was Model 278. The one referenced in the 65 manual was a more basic idea to automatically cue an SR print.
The idea had a lot of potential but putting all resources into creating SR.D ended the project.
The idea was to actually print intelligent bar codes on the fly onto the actual release print so there would be a serial #, time code, scope, flat, start of credits; all sorts of stuff, an early attempt at metadata.
There were also printed cues to supplement the ones printed into the release print. There is actually one cinema still running on this system; Grand Lake in Oakland, CA.
The UA system was a competing and incompatible system based on a Symbol Technologies hand held bar code reader like the ones you see at retail stores.
It had a number of limitations, among them the critical flaw that scanner had to run continually looking for a taped on cue wearing out the laser mirror motor. The Dolby system was a simple slot reader that read the film as it passed by.

Of which I've been trying to find more information on... there's a manual but it doesn't show the circuit board interface cable connection that it references (missing figure 2). Not using the CP750 so working on the wiring to connect one to a Crestron Pro3 (via RS422) and use an external 15v DC power supply

It is a standard ethernet cable RJ45 connector. The CP750 has an RJ45 for the cable, they ship with a jack locking plug so one doesn't connect a network cable to it. I don'y know what that would do but since they bother with the lockout, it probably isn't good.
No clue on the communication protocol or command structure, I don't know if it's published. Not TCP/IP, at least.

Thanks for the response Dave. I understand it's an RJ45 connection, have the pinout from the CP750 manual which I'll attach here. Just can't find much data for the connection on the fader end..
Worst case I'll just figure it out once I get the fader in hand but would like to prepare ahead of time if possible.

That pin-out looks like it follows the standard POE wiring plan,
which reserves pins 4&5 + 7&8 for power transport.
