Does anyone here have a Bauer U4 projector in use?

We have 4 (somewhat infrequently used) that run at 25fps instead of 24fps, and we're looking into modifying them to run closer to 24fps (probably changing the motor pulley), and I'm curious if anyone else has 60Hz U4s and is aware of this.

Please feel free to drop me a line to <jhawk@MIT.EDU> if that feels more comfortable. I'll summarize (in aggregate) any responses.

All the 60Hz erneman VIIIB's and IX's that came over also ran at 25fps
Get a 3 phase speed controller is the best method AllenBradley Bodine Magnatech motor all make excellent inverter speedcontrollers

At this point, the current plan is replace the motor pulley with a different size to bring us to 23.8fps. Given that the machines have single-phase motors, I don't think it's worth the small benefit to either finding a workable single-phase motor controller or replacing the motor with a 3-phase motor and getting a 3-phase motor controller. Both are substantially more effort than replacing a single pulley.

Most Bauers usually had 3 phase motors with a bank of capactitors to create a phantom 3rd phase

Wow, thanks, Gordon, you made me look more closely, and you're correct, they are 3-phase motors. Time to consider carefully which solution to adopt...
