My name is Jason Verlen. I have a Devry XD projector in my basement that I use to show a small collection.

The sound is stereo, but at the moment I have it hooked up to a mono amp and single speaker. Long story, we'll get to that another day!

In any case, the sound from the unit has never been very good. Right now, it goes into the "phono" connection of a Challenger 30 tube amp, and then to a single speaker. It is loud enough, but the sound isn't terrifically good to say the least.

From searching this forum I see I should probably be using the MIC inputs. Question 1: Is this correct...is MIC better than PHONO?

However, the MIC inputs on the amp are the old connectors (screw on). So, question 2: Is there an RCA/Mic (old style) connector/adaptor that anyone sells? I went to Radio Shack and they didn't have it.

Question 3: If I wanted to go to a solid state amp, is the MIC amp that Radio Shack sells (40 bucks or so for 20 watts/channel) a good one with good sound?

Question 4: If I wanted to go to Dolby for a reasonable price, what is the best approach? The project has dual stereo outputs...I'm just not using them yet.

Don't use the phono input, the phono input has a high frequency rolloff used on records. The mic input will have a flat response but also a lot more gain so you might overload the input (distortion).
