I did notice that the focus setting needed to be "tweeked" when going from tungsten to red LED. I'm not suprised since I doubt the slit lens has any special coating to correct for chromatic aberation (I think that's the term for different wavelengths focusing slightly differently??).

Use an efficient heat sink (or even active cooling such as a water-cooled heat sink), and no more current than needed to get enough light output.

Another advantage to these things over the over priced store bought is that you can make up extra ones using the white LEDs and install them in the bulb holders to have white light ready to go for the older prints and especially the variable density tracks.
