I've never seen this before. All reels including reel 3 have the ubiquitous yet redundant "SRD / SR" label in the sound track area, yet reel 3 seems to be missing the Dolby Digital track.

Any idea how this could happen, and has anyone else seen this on their print?

Is it exposed in the interperf area (black) or unexposed (clear)? I'm going to guess it's clear and the printer accidentally had the SR•D exposure turned off.

I agree, the light source for printing the Dolby Digital track likely failed. Remember, each sound format is printed using its own light source, so the color and intensity of the light can be optimum for the track being printed. All tracks are on a single sound negative. Lab QC would normally catch such a problem, but a few reels may have "escaped". If you are playing Dolby Digital, ask for a replacement reel. If not, at least let the distributor and exchange know, and clearly label the reel with the problem when you return it.
