I have seen many prints with a single frame in the leader which says, "Overlay Print". What does this mean?

OK!

But NONE of these prints contained overlayed subtitles.

What other significance is there to this process?

Could it mean that the image is changed in format? Like a scope print reformatted to 1:85 or 1:66?

Images other than titles can be overlayed, although titles are the most common use.

Is it also possible/common to use overlay with, say, regular main titles, etc.? I also have seen this designation on non-subtitled prints, and (I think) mostly or entirely with Technicolor prints.
