Is the CP-65 supposed to do matrix decoding on its non-sync input? and if so, how do i modify it to not do so? Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a jumper on one of the cards (441??) that enables/disables matrixing in non-sync mode.

The jumper resides at Cat. 443 control logic card.
You can choose std for stereo playback or 2:4 for matrix playback, although on all CP65s I have worked, by going to non-sync mode (2:4 enabled) inhibits centre channel.

Because non-sync selected on teh front panel can be configured differently to non-sync selected via the automation inputs. I can't recall off hand the details, but the jumper has something to do with this. No doubt it'll be in the book if you look long and hard enough.

I'm just using front panel inputs for control. I noticed this when i patched a DV deck into the non-synch and had the majority of my audio on the surround channels, the rest on center, when it should have been all left/right. Ended up patching my non-synch mixer directly into the left/right amp to get an acceptable signal.
