I have two bottles of Kodak lens cleaner here and they smell like they contain ammonia. Could this be a correct assumption? Is ammonia safe for lenses?

AFAIK ammonia is one of the last things you'd want to be applying to your lenses. Doesn't Windex have ammonia?

Does Windex contain ammonia? Right on the label it says "Glass Cleaner With Ammonia-D".

No ammonia, but it does contain less than 1 percent ammonium carbonate.

John P -- Is the "ammonia" odor considered normal? Or does Kodak lens cleaner go off? I have no idea how old these bottles are.

Also...One is a square bottle and the other is round. Each contains one pint. Which is newer packaging?

Lens cleaner makes good after shave lotion. Used it many times in an emergency. Only I used Rosco. [Wink]

What is the purpose of aftershave lotion, anyway? Regardless of whether I use an electric or real razor (or both) I am ready to go right after I shave. Am I missing out?

Possibly ammonium carbonate could dissociate and have a slight ammonia odor if old or stored improperly. But since it is less than 1% of the formula, I doubt it would have any adverse effect. If you think it is too old, why not buy some new lens cleaner?

Joe, the alcohol in lens cleaner stings the face a little, and when it dries up, it doesn't feel prickley anymore. [Big Grin]

Eh, forget about aftershave. Just use a glycerin base shave soap with a shave brush. You're face will feel better after shaving than it did before.
