Howdy All, The Howard theatre is needing to get two reflectors recoated. They go in a Christie CC20 and CH20 Console and Lamphouse respectively. Need to have a quick turnaround as they will need to be back in the equipment by Nov 1st. Anyone have suggestions or recommendations?

If they're glass you might use an astronomical recoating service. You can look in the back of Sky & Telescope magazine for vendors. Just a thought

Actually the best thing to do if these are the original reflectors is to install he Phoenix conversion kit, or at least the Strong reflector conversion that utilizes the Super Lum-Ex reflector. This way you'll get from double to triple the amount of light out of the consoles. If thats not an option then recoating via Ultraflat is the next best thing but still VERY, VERY expensive. You will also need new heat mirrors if you recoat via Ultraflat...another added expense that you do away with with going with either of the other two routes.
The Phoenix kit is hard to beat at the price......

The Phoenix kit will only work in the console not the two peice lamphouse
The CH serries was always a hot mirror in most cases anyway

Ultra flat doesn't do cold reflectors If you send them one it will come back as a hot one so you need to buy there heat filter

According to Bob at Ultraflat they will be happy to do recoat of a cold reflector for nyone, or convert a standard coating to cold. It about doubles the already near new mirror cost though. For older lamphouses and consoles theya re the only route to a new reflector though and you have no other choice. Since I've been at CLACO we haven't sold a used Christie console without the Phoenix upgrade in it. To do so would be doing a kind customer a great disservice.

The Christie Phoenix kit can be adapted to many lamphouses and consoles other than what it was intended for...a little inginuity [thumbsup]

to mount the optical bench, adapt someone elses ignitor, and to relocate the blower which is normally hung underneath the plenum is all it requires!! Since it is a pressureized plenum it doesn't matter if the air enters from the top, or side, or where ever.

Rick, The Howard sold to a local attorney who is spending big bucks to rehab the place. He tore out the downstairs theatre walls and is having the brick and mortar damage behind them fixed. Then he is having Richard Pickett redrape the walls and redo the front end of that theatre with adjustable masking. The owner is also looking at putting in a digital format downstairs. The rack has teh amps to so it, But I will need to replace the CP50 and SRA5 adpater I have in the rack currently to do the digital thing. Also we have more modern house light dimmers that will do Half Lights during the previews and credits going into both auditoriums. Both theatres are equipped with Dolby CP50's right now. Downstairs is a full blown Dolby while upstairs is center/surround. There is a Yahoo group started called The Howard Theatre if you intrested in following the progression of things.
